Utica Union Station Utica NY history is highlighted by this iconic Beaux-Arts transportation hub built between 1912 and 1914. Utica Union Station is a landmark in Utica NY history, built between 1912 and 1914 as a Beaux-Arts architectural centerpiece designed by Stem and Fellheimer. Constructed to replace an earlier 1869 station, it featured grand elements such as marble columns, terrazzo flooring, and a vaulted ceiling. Its development required significant engineering, including rerouting the Mohawk River to expand the rail yard.

Originally serving the New York Central Railroad, the station became a true “union” station in 1915 when additional rail lines joined. It played a vital role during World War II as a transportation hub for troops and included a USO lounge. After decades of decline in rail travel, the station was preserved and restored, and today stands as the Boehlert Transportation Center, continuing its role in the region’s transportation and history.
