Greater Utica Magazine Cover July 2016 - The History of Proctor Day in Utica, NY

A view from the street of the Thomas R. Proctor staute on the Parkway in Utica, NY

In this issue, we highlight the history and significance of Proctor Day, a celebration rooted in the generous gift of more than 600 acres of parkland to the City of Utica by Thomas R. Proctor and his wife. These beautifully designed green spaces, shaped in part by the influence of Frederick Law Olmsted Jr., have become a lasting part of the community’s identity, offering scenic landscapes and places for recreation and reflection. Our story looks at the origins of these parks, the events and traditions that celebrate them, and their continued importance today. As you revisit this cover along with others from the past 11 years of Greater Utica, we invite you to show some love by voting for your favorite cover—and if this is a story you’d like to see reprinted, let us know in the comments. We appreciate the feedback and look forward to seeing which cover comes out on top.
