D.B. Smith Fountainhead Group Utica NY history represents more than a century of innovation rooted in the Mohawk Valley. Founded in 1888 in Utica by D.B. Smith, the company became a pioneer in compressed air sprayers, introducing technology that would transform agriculture, forestry, and industrial applications. One of its most iconic contributions, the Indian Fire Pump, became an essential tool for New York State Forest Rangers and remains a symbol of the company’s ingenuity.

The history of D.B. Smith Fountainhead Group Utica NY continued to evolve through new ownership and expansion into modern markets. After being acquired by Gene Romano and later led by CEO John Romano, the company was rebranded as The Fountainhead Group and expanded its product lines globally. Now based in New York Mills, the company produces leading brands such as SMITH®, Field King, and Indian, continuing its legacy as a major manufacturer and innovator in liquid applicator technology.
